The Come Back Kid - Ethics in Addiction Treatment
When a patient enters treatment, that patient believes the facility and care providers will act ethically throughout treatment in recovery. Accountability for providing quality treatment services is critical in today’s environment. Basic ethical practices and standards build trust in an organization but providers also need to be aware of the ever-evolving landscape of addiction treatment. Industry news constantly reminds us that not all treatment providers are ethical and that unscrupulous practices abound from Florida to California..
In this webinar, Dr. Louise Stanger discusses the delivery of ethical treatment in the behavioral healthcare industry and the roles of behavioral healthcare professionals. Exploring the current state of ethics, Dr. Stanger will revisit the meaning of ethics, what it means to your organization, what it means to you as an individual, and what it means to the consumer. The difference between ethics and the laws will be highlighted as well as standard of care considerations. Special attention will be paid to the use of social media in the delivery of ethical practices and safeguards to protect your onsite identity.
Dr. Stanger reviews some hot ethical topics including marijuana legalization for recreational use, insurance companies and healthcare fraud, and misrepresentation of services. What, if any, are the ethical issues that surround using cannabis for opiate withdrawal? What, if any, are the ethical issues that every home should have Narcan for opiate withdrawal? Dr. Stanger will also sample ethics from three different perspectives as an individual practitioner (doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, marriage family therapists, addiction counselors, interventionists, etc.), treatment owner, and the consumer.
The webinar provides:
A step-by-step process for resolving ethical dilemmas
Best practices in ethics and standard of care
Latest ethical strategies from the medical profession
